Renovations of the Grand Canyon Increase Ease for Travelers!

With the South Rim region of the Grand Canyon being the most popular, park officials have made several improvements to increase the ease for those visiting the park.  Travelers will be able to enjoy 600 new parking spaces, 40 new spots for commercial tour buses, and increased accessibility to the Visitor Center.  However, these are not the only adjustments being made to benefit those touring the Grand Canyon.  Slated to be completed by the end of 2010 are the following improvements:

    * Additional restroom facilities on the north end of the bus parking lot
    * Development of a new shuttle bus stop at Mather Point
    * Renovation of the stairs and pathway of the Mather Point overlook area
    * Construction of an informal amphitheater on the rim
    * New picnic areas near the rim

Also new for the summer are bike rentals provided by Bright Angel Bicycles, which those on a Grand Canyon tour can ride throughout the parks greenway trail system.  Visitors have the option of exploring the park via the three routes lining the South Rim, which include: the Village Route, the Kaibab Trail Route, and the Hermits Rest Route.

Park officials hope that their efforts to enhance the park’s accessibility will provide travelers with increased ease when visiting the Grand Canyon.  The changes were designed to alleviate traffic and stress from touring the park, especially during peak seasons.  And to make your Grand Canyon vacation even more enjoyable, we’ve created a site with everything you need to know when preparing for your trip.  Read our tips on everything from what to pack, activities available to you, where to stay, and prepare for a memorable tour of the Grand Canyon!
