As a bit of an outdoorsman, one of my absolute favorite places to visit on a tour is Yellowstone National Park. The park itself extends in to portions of Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, and is the first national park to have been established in the United States.
In addition to hundreds of types of wildlife and a huge variety of plantlife, Yellowstone is also home to one of the largest active volcanos in North America! One quick look at all of the geysers and hot springs found in the area is a clear indication of the active nature of the Yellowstone National Park. Millions have the adventure of a lifetime each year on Yellowstone Tours, and there are an almost endless number of sites to see.
With that in mind, I’ve put together my top 3 choices for Must-Sees on a Yellowstone Tour. Here they are:
Old Faithful
No Yellowstone Tour is complete without a trip to this reliable geyser. Old Faithful erupts more frequently than any of the other big geysers. The average time between eruptions is 91 minutes. However, it can vary from 65 to 92 minutes. It was over 100 years ago that it was first noticed to be so consistent. A beautiful visitors’ center and gift shop are nearby to pass the time as you wait for the next eruption. Most eruptions only last one to five minutes but are so massive (100 to 200 feet high) that the experience is not soon forgotten.
Mammoth Hot Springs
At first glance, Mammoth Hot Springs appear as a frozen waterfall. Large terraces abound while being connected by trickling water. The hot acidic water from the thermal aspect below ascends through ancient limestone deposits in the area. As the water dissolves the limestone, it is carried to the surface. When the suspension cools and becomes less acidic at the surface it forms the pools and the cascading features. This area is truly an amazing and dynamic work of art and a definite must see on all Yellowstone Tours.
Wildlife
While the wildlife is a must see on a Yellowstone Tour, it is also a can’t miss. The abundance of animals in the park is famous. Early morning and evening hours are when animals tend to feed. Thus, they are more easily seen during these times. Don’t despair if you are only able to enter the park during midday. You should still be able to view many birds and even some bison. Other notable animals in the park include bears, bighorn sheep, bobcats, coyotes, elk, lynx, moose, mountain lions, and wolves.
With some of the most incredible features and attractions on the planet, well-planned Yellowstone Tours will allow the visitor to experience nature in ways never before imagined. It is truly one of the wonders of the natural world and is to see why over two million people take Yellowstone Tours every year.
