If you have been putting off starting a new sport until the New Year, it might be worth reminding yourself exactly what Britain is like on January 1. Icy winds and snow will derail even the best of intentions. So, with October’s glorious scenery and – fingers crossed – weather to match, why not start now? Here is a round-up of the top-10 action sports for autumn.
1 Mountainboarding
This sport has been developed over the past six years by snowboarders looking for summertime kicks. A cross between snowboarding and skateboarding, it probably has more in common with the former, because your feet are strapped in. But remember that when you fall, there is no soft landing.
Boards start at around £80 and there is a comprehensive selection to be found at www.atbshop.co.uk. To try it out, head to Halifax, home of Britain’s first dedicated mountainboarding centre.
