On March 2, 1836, Texas officially separated from Mexico and became the republic of Texas by adopting the Texas Declaration of Independence. And to celebrate the monumental event of Texas Independence Day, Texans across the beautiful state will be celebrating by doing what, you ask? Voting!

The most hotly-contested race appears to be the Republican primary where Governor Rick Perry and rival and United States Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson, will be battling it out to represent the Republican Party for governor of Texas. Senator Bailey, whose trips to Washington, D.C. to represent Texas have made her a favorite of many in Teas, is predicting that the Republican Party will come together after this tumultuous race between herself and the current governor while at the same time predicting that she will be victorious. Many Texans are undecided in their votes, but have until 7 pm tonight to decide who to vote for.

Texas Independence Day is officially a state holiday, making it an ideal day for a Texas trip to one of its many statewide attractions or even an excursion to one of its neighbor states, such as Nevada where a trip to Las Vegas is never dull or maybe even a longer trip to Florida to see Disneyworld. So while voting is important, a day off is a day off and always provides the perfect opportunity to take a vacation in the United States.
