Spain is a country with so many fun activities for the whole family to enjoy that it is difficult to select only a few to mention! Spain is a very diverse country, with different climates, numerous accents and even languages depending on if you are visiting Northern or Southern Spain.

In the North, in cities such as Bilbao, you will find some of the most beautiful parks, and hiking trails as the North is famous for its rolling hills, good wine and fine dining. The Northern area is known as Basque country and the residents speak a dialect of Spanish here.

Approximately 200 kilometers north of Madrid, lies the city of Valladolid which is home to a world-class University, many bars and discotheques and museums which pay tribute to Christopher Columbus, who sailed to the New World for Spain.

With a visit to Spain’s capital, Madrid, you will find a various number of world class museums such as “ El Mueseo del Prado” or Prado Museum, which houses some of Salvador Dali’s most famous paintings, as well as works of art from other famous Spanish and European artists.

While in Madrid, head to see a bullfighting show, which comes complete with music, the cheers of the crowd, handsome matadors and exciting action. When the matador lifts his cape and the bull runs straight for it, listen to the crowd chant “ Ole !” over and over again. You will be carried away with the emotion that makes bull fighting a national pastime in Spain.

For those who might not enjoy watching bull fighting, head to a live flamenco music show, complete with flamenco dancers, men and women in traditional, striking costumes and typical castanets. The rhythm of the Spanish guitar will entrance you and might even make you want to get up and dance the night away as well!!!!

As you head further south, you will notice a change in the Spanish accent as it becomes more flowery and light. In Granada make sure to visit “ La Alambra” which means “red fortress” in Arabic and was built when the Moors lived in Spain. Its architecture is simply stunning. While in Seville, head to “La Plaza Mayor” and marvel in the ceramic tiles which are each hand-painted and are uniquely designed.

Whether you are basking in the sun in Malaga, window shopping in Madrid or eating Spanish style snacks at a tapas bar, Spain’s friendly people and fascinating history will warm your heart.
