San Carlos is the ideal getaway for snowbirds looking to go south for the winter! The city is located in Sonora on the Sea of Cortez and offers its visitors great weather as well as a wide range of activities to partake in.

During your visit to San Carlos, miles and miles of beautiful beaches will surround you, and each has its own special attraction. There are all different kinds: noisy, quiet, secluded, crowded, sandy, or rocky. All the beaches in Mexico are open to the public. A few nice beaches can only be reached by boat, which makes for a great afternoon of sailing. The best times to visit the beach are mornings or late afternoon after the hot sun has set.  The sunsets are fabulous and walking along the beach or marina at sundown always sets a romantic tone to any evening.

Some beaches are tucked inside small coves, called “calletas.” The beaches in these calletas are more intimate and usually offer more privacy. Some beaches are big enough for a party with lots of room for parking. Enjoy a margarita, Tequila Sunrise or a  Corona beer as you spend a relaxing afternoon lounging on the beach.  Some of the best beaches include San Francisco Beach near the Pilar Condominios, La Posada and Shangri-La Cove, which is adjacent to the Beach Club.

For a fantastic view of San Carlos, head to the Mirador Escénico, which is overlooks the beautiful sea. It is open from 8am to 8pm and is defiantly a must see attraction. On the right side as you approach the Mirador; you can also see the Bahia Esmeralda (Emerald Bay) as well as a brand new housing development with many restaurants and bars.

Tetas de Cabra, are mountains, which are visible from every part of San Carlos. Climb to the peak for a glorious 360° view of the Sea of Cortez. Catch a glimpse of Mexico’s native mammals. You will be surrounded by impressive stands of cacti and other beautiful fauna. You will also see yucca plants, which are used in a variety of traditional Mexican dishes.

Whether you are walking along the footpath to Playa Piedras Pintas, visiting Marina Real or buying fresh fish and clams from La Manga Fishing Camp, San Carlos is a wonderful town for both young and old and it will keep you coming back year after year.
