These lush, green, exotic islands are located approximately 14 kilometres off the coast of Honduras in Central America. They are some of the most tropical and naturally exquisite islands found in the Caribbean. Welcome to the beautiful Bay Islands!

The Bay Islands are made up of three island paradises, one more beautiful than the next. The first and most populated by tourists, because of its gorgeous, white, sandy beaches and its popularity with international divers, is Roatan. This island boasts the second largest barrier reef in the world and has exceptional diving off the coral reefs.  Roatan also has a dock for cruise ships which make this exotic destination easier to get to than ever before.

Next you are ready to explore the island of Utila. Take the ferry ride (this is a fun event in itself and offers gorgeous scenic views and perhaps a glimpse of some wildlife) from Roatan. In approximately one hour, you will arrive on another one of Honduras’ little- known tropical playgrounds. Immerse yourself in the local culture, listen to the Spanish music playing in the street or head to the beach for a swim or unwind by a palm tree with your favourite beverage. Utila has great nightlife and there is always a party going on whether its night or day!

The last of the Bay Islands is called Guanaja, which is a little more difficult to get to because there are no local ferries that take passengers. The best way to get there is by chartering a small boat and a captain for a reasonable price. They will take you to explore Guanaja and return you to Roatan or Utila after a day of sightseeing, rest and relaxation. Guanaja is very unique because it actually has no roads. There is no need for cars on these small islands and the main city is located on stilts. Its inhabitants use small dingy boats to get from one place to another or to travel between the other Bay Islands. You can taste the local seafood, which is simply delicious, or imagine life living on an island with no roads, and few people. It makes for quite the interesting day!

Whether you are relaxing on the beach, chatting to the locals, enjoying a drink from a freshly squeezed orange, sipping coconut juice from a coconut or basking in the sun, the Bay Islands are a treasure for all your senses.
