Zermatt is a wonderful city in Switzerland filled with natural and cultural attractions for all ages. Visit the Matterhorn Klein, which is one of the highest sightseeing points in all of Europe. The view from Matterhorn peak is out of this world. Hike up to 4 478 metres above sea level to enjoy one of the most famous mountains in Switzerland. Lifts carry skiers up to an elevation of 3 620 metres, and its cable cars are the highest in Europe. Zermatt is reputed to be one of the best skiing venues in the world!

Take a ride on the Gonergratbahn, which is Switzerland’s highest open-air train. You will marvel at the fantastic view of the mountains and glaciers below, and the nine kilometer line stops at the summit of Gongergrat which is located 3 130 meters above sea level.  Head to the Observation level to view these fabulous peaks.

Zermatt was put on the map after Edward Whymper’s conquest of the Matterhorn in 1865. Now, over a hundred years later, at least 140 enthusiastic climbers make the treck up the mountain daily. After a day of climbing, there is no better way to relax then by unwinding at a café located in Zermatt Village. Bahnhofstrasse Street, the main street in town, is always bustling with action. The town is an exhaust free zone and is very environmentally friendly. Instead of cars, the streets are laden with horse drawn carriages and electrical buggies, in order to keep it as alpine fresh as possible. If you do travel by car to this resort, you have to leave your vehicle in the parking lot at Tasch and then catch a train to Zermatt.

For those who love skiing and culture, the Alpine Museum will fascinate outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Here you will find an array of climbing memorabilia, as well as a made to scale model of the Matterhorn Mountains, which surrounds Zermatt. There is even an exhibit with a fully equipped farm kitchen, which represents what life would have been like at a local farmhouse in the Alps back in 1720.

Whether you are ridding in a toboggan race along sheets of ice called the Cresta Run, touring the beautiful Glacier Palace and admiring its ice sculptures or spending an exciting day at Gravity Park, Zermatt is a vibrant city, which always has something to offer its visitors.
