Tuscany is located in the west central region of Italy. This region includes the cities of Florence, Pisa and Siena.  It is a very picturesque part of the world that features rolling hills, historical buildings and a pleasant Mediterranean climate.  The west coast of Tuscany features beautiful beaches along the Mediterranean coast. Tourists can enjoy wonderful promenades along the Arno River, which is a picturesque waterway that flows through Tuscany. It originates from Mount Falterona and passes through the cities of Florence and Pisa before reaching the Mediterranean Sea.

Many people visit Tuscany to enjoy the region’s fabulous Italian cuisine.  Meals often include freshly baked bread, cheese, crisp vegetables, mushrooms and fresh seasonal fruit. Olive oil produced from the Moraiolo, Leccino, Frantoio, and Pendolino olives is widely used in Tuscan dishes. Florentine steak and pastas are also popular in Tuscany and are simply delicious.

Visitors to Tuscany have a broad selection of great restaurants and sidewalk cafes to chose from. Here they can enjoy wonderful Italian food and wine.  Italians love dining at outdoor restaurants surrounded by flowers. There are many beautiful parks and gardens found throughout this region.  Head to the rose garden located on a hillside near Florence is a great place to have a picnic, take photographs or relax in the sun.

Throughout Tuscany Italy, visitors can discover historical buildings and many fascinating artifacts.   Florence used to be encircled with a city wall that was built during the Medieval period. Parts of this amazing structure can still be found surrounding the city and make for a great photo opportunity.

Tuscany has some of the very best art galleries in the world.  These include the Uffizi Gallery and the Santa Croce Museum (the Holy Cross Musuem). Both of these museums are home to beautiful Italian sculptures, paintings and statues by some of the world’s best artists. Michelangelo’s world-famous Statue of David is on display at the Accademia Gallery in Florence, and is a wonderful work of art, which is not to be missed.

The region is naturally beautiful and you can enjoy hikes in the Italian countryside or enjoy quiet walks along Tuscany’s Mediterranean beaches.
