Take A Grand Canyon Skywalk Tour

If you’re taking a tour to the Grand Canyon, one place that is an absolutely must-see is the Grand Canyon Skywalk. An enourmous construction of glass and steel, the Skywalk juts out nearly one mile over the Colorado River and is quickly becoming one of the most talked about attractions in Arizona. This amazing horseshoe-shapped glass bridge extends over 70 feel from the edge of the Grand Canyon and offers visitors an absolutely stunning view of the canyon from above.

Located 120 miles east of Las Vegas, Nevada, the Grand Canyon Skywalk Glass Bridge was built by the Hualapai Tribe to provide a one-of-a-kind Grand Canyon experience and to make money from the tourists who will flock to this attraction. Over three times higher than the Empire State Building, the Grand Canyon Skywalk Glass Bridge was constructed with over one million pounds of steel and is built to withstand the weight of 71 fully-loaded Boeing 747 planes (over 71 million pounds).

The Skywalk was engineered to withstand winds of over 100 miles per hour from eight directions. Engineers also took earthquakes into consideration when designing the Grand Canyon Skywalk. The structure was built to last through an earthquake of up to 8.0 on the Richter scale within the surrounding 50 miles of the Grand Canyon.

The Grand Canyon Skywalk Glass Bridge is only one piece of a 6,000 square-foot development called Grand Canyon West that includes a visitors’ center, gift shop, and a restaurant. It’ll cost you $25 to see the Grand Canyon from this unusual perspective. As someone who recently ventured out to see this new modern marvel, I have to say it was one of the most breathtaking things I’ve ever experience.

Standing out 70 feet and a mile up over the Grand Canyon on my recent tour, I have to say the view was a bit mindboggling. If you take a Grand Canyon tour and don’t take the time to visit the Skywalk then you are missing out on an experience of a lifetime.
