Before embarking on the drive into the Rockies, many tours leave from the port city of Vancouver, therefore a trip to the world-renowned park Stanley Park is in order. It is not only the largest city park in Canada; it boasts 1000 acres of forest, lakes and meadows. Enjoy a stroll through this beautiful park. Throughout your journey through Stanley Park, you will see many totem poles, which are a signature of the First Nations, aboriginal people who first settled this land. Many of the descendents still practise their traditions and history, which enrich Canadian life.
While you are in Vancouver, there are plenty of attractions to take in during your tour. Highlights include a stop at Granville Island, shopping in Gastown and a visit to the world’s thinnest office building; the Sam Kee Building, which is only 1.8 meters wide! Get your cameras out for this one because it’s hard to believe!
Vancouver Island’s beaches, from English Bay to Sunset beach are a great place to go for a walk and to relax. Many activities are available such as swimming, sun tanning or cycling.
Don’t forget to visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge, which suspends 230 feet above the Capilano River! The wire cables used in this bridge are encased with thirteen tons of concrete at either end, of course the 450 feet walk across is completely safe and definitely an adventure!
Now you are on your way to tour the Canadian Rockies, you can visit them from Jasper to Banff or vice versa. From Vancouver you can reach Banff via the Okanagan Valley. This valley is famous for its fruit orchards and great wine.
Banff is a very pretty town, which is located in the middle of Banff National Park. The views of the mountains here are out of this world! There are a variety of hotels, gift shops, restaurants and eateries. There are many things you can do in Banff such as going for a hike up one of the nearby mountains, which is quite the thrill!
Whether you join in one of the guided nature walks, admire the view from a cable car as you scale the mountains, or watch performances and plays about life in the Rockies a hundred years ago, organized by the Banff tourism board; the Canadian Rockies are one of Canada’s natural wonders, whose beauty will entrance you.
