In preparation for its expected summer visitors, Catalina Island recently introduced its zipline to the public on April 14. The Catalina Zipline Eco-Tour, is designed to usher its guests over the island’s canyons at about 40mph. The zipline, which is constructed of a harness supported by overhead cables, will be guided with the help of a trolley for approximately 3,700 feet, reaching a high of 300 feet. Guests will be met with an exhilarating adventure as they soar past tree tops, rocky canyons, and get a bird’s eye view of the stunning island. The new attraction is expected to draw both younger and more adventurous crowds to tour Catalina Island this summer.
However, this is not the only effort Catalina Island officials have made to revamp the island. As guests reach the end of their zipline tour, they will be greeted with an abundance of renovated restaurants, shopping centers, newly constructed hillside condominiums, and more eco-adventures. In addition to the zipline, the Santa Catalina Island Company is scheduled to launch its Sea Trek attraction this summer, designed to let you walk across the ocean floor as you are held down by a heavy underwater helmet. The specially engineered helmets are devised so that anyone can securely and comfortably discover the true beauty of marine life around Catalina Island. Guests can walk amongst schools of mackerel, touch an octopus, or spot a lobster as they explore the kelp forests of Catalina Island.
