Next, make sure to visit the Baphuon temple, the Terrace of Elephants and Terrace of Leper Kings, as well as the Royal Enclosure, which are fantastic places to take photos.

During the city’s past, it was French in its colonial days and the French influence can be felt in the buildings and architecture to this day. In Phnom Penh, make sure to visit the Silver Pagoda, which will take your breath away with its beauty and peacefulness. There are many interesting museums, which will give you an insight into Cambodia’s colonial and recent past. Visit the National Museum with its fascinating exhibits and the Tuol Sleng Museum, to understand Cambodia’s recent past under the Khmer Rouge regime.

Once you have visited the temples and pagodas, head to the Central Market where you can have a real taste of what Cambodia offers commercially. Here you can try the local fruit, or shop for souvenirs at very reasonable prices. Bargaining is not frowned upon- it is encouraged!

Off the beaten path head to Kâmpóng Khleang, which is an enchanting village nestled near Tonle Sap Lake. This is home to villagers who live in a forest of stilted houses. It’s a great place to see Cambodian village life! Here you can buy traditional handicrafts and enjoy gorgeous views of the lake.
