7/13/09 – Grand Canyon – South Rim – A man plunged 600 feet to his death this morning after driving his blue sedan over the edge of the Grand Canyon’s South Rim. This appeared to be a suicide modeled after the famous death plunge scene at the end of the movie “Thelma and Louise”. Police are investigating.

Aerial shots of the grand Canyon provide a great view and can really give you an idea of the scope and size of this massive creation of Mother Nature’s, but what about the waterways that make up a good portion of the Canyon floor?

On April 5, 1909 a story appeared in the Arizona Gazette claiming that an archeological expedition funded by the Smithsonian Institute had found caves in the Grand Canyon which contained ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and artifacts. No follow up story was ever done, sources were not verified, and the Smithsonian has no record of it. Just a hoax, right? That’s what many people thought and the story faded away, forgotten for nearly a century.
