Exploring Nuremberg, Germany

The Bavarian city of Nuremberg located in Germany offers tourists a wide range of fun events, activities and festivals to enjoy. This city’s calendar includes diverse cultural events, outdoor concerts and German festivals. The most notable include the Ostermarkt, the Frühlingsfest or Spring Festival and the Altstadtfest, or the Old Town Festival among Nuremberg’s biggest events.
 

Those visiting the city in June may be lucky enough to experience the famous Nürnberger Bratwursttag (Nuremberg Day of the Sausage), where many traditional sausages can be sampled and local entertainment enjoyed. You can wash these down with typical German beer, and Nuremberg accounts for some of the best in Bavaria. 

A trip to Nuremberg would not be complete without visiting some of its most popular landmarks. There include the incredible Imperial Castle, Femohaus, Albrecht-Durer-Haus and Felsengange. Make sure to touch the Nuremberg Ring, which is a large ring enclosed with an iron fence, it is said to bring good luck to those that touch it.  

Children will love the Tiergarten Nürnberg Zoo, which offers a variety of exhibits including many species of animals found in Germany.  Children will also enjoy visiting the German National Railway Museum, as it offers interactive exhibits and sells handmade toys.  

Saint Lorenz Church is the largest and most impressive in Nuremberg, building of the church began in 1270 and it took over 200 years to complete. It has twin towers that flank its west portal, the portal’s sculptures show the Biblical theme of redemption, from Adam and Eve to the Last Judgment. Most of the church’s stained and painted glass date back to the 15th century. The interior of the church is amazing! This is a sight not to be missed when in Nuremberg.  

Kaiserburg Castle is another attraction not to be missed! This castle sits on a hill overlooking the city, and from 1050 to 1571 it was the official residence of the German Kings. The castle has three complexes: the Kaiserburg, the Burgraves’ Castle and the Municipal Buildings of the Free City. Tour the Kaiserburg Museum, which exhibits antique weapons, armour, paintings and the history of the castle.  

Whether you are partying the night away at Mach1 Night Club, immersing yourself in the fascinating history of the Old Towne, or enjoying a pint of local beer at one of the many pubs, its worth exploring every inch of Nuremberg as new adventures await you around every corner.
