If I could describe Christine Gilbert’s blog, Almost Fearless, in three words it would be inspiring, spunky, and thought-provoking. Her writing is elegant but quirky, and filled with phrases that spark visual splendors in your imagination.
I was a black belt in Living in the Future. I knew if I just hung in there, worked hard, moved up, made more money, switched companies, organized my desk better, read more Harvard Business School case studies on teamwork or understood my bosses motivations better– I too would have a big old steaming hunk of the American Dream.
And I did. I got it. I ate it up, and asked for seconds.
When I finally landed that dream job, I looked around and thought, “Is this it?”
So yes, I decided to pull a Houdini and unlock the strait jacket and swim out of the box.
Her posts go beyond storytelling, but actually speak to her audience. She takes her experiences and gives advice on how to apply what she’s learned to your own life. Christine acts as a guide along the way for 20-something year olds who are unsure about what they should to do vs. what they want do, the workaholic 9-5’r who hangs pictures of Tahiti in their cubicle, and the untamed spirits who want to escape their own escapism, and make it a reality.
Christine stands apart from others because she doesn’t only delve into the rollercoaster adventures of traveling, but also addresses her journeys restrospectively. Her writing is opinionated, to-the-point and witty, making for a great read.
Right now her and her husband are creating a documentary film which focuses on the lives and world of fellow flashpackers, many of whom have been previous Crush’s4Fun! With the travel blogging community expanding, it will be interesting to see the lives all the digital nomads we read about, on camera.
Christine has also created an e-book series for those who want to take the travel plunge. The series includes: Going Digital (the guide on working remotely), 30 Ways (how to redesign your life) and Twitter for travelers (using social media to crowd source your trip).
If you’ve ever been bitten by the travel bug, and have aspirations of making traveling the world a reality, then Christine is the perfect coach. Her posts are motivational and informative, leaving you not only with wanderlust, but with the tools to pursue your passions.
