Great Dickens Christmas Fair in San Francisco

One of America’s oldest holiday traditions, Great Dickens Christmas Fair is held at the Cow Place in San Francisco.  It was started by Ron & Phyllis Patterson in 1970 and since then has recreated the winding streets of Victorian London, where Dickens placed his famous characters – Oliver Twist, Nicholas Nickleby, David Copperfield et al. Starting on the Friday immediately after Thanksgiving, and continuing through the four weekends to Christmas, you have the opportunity to wine, dine and shop as the Victorians did in 19th Century London.  A unique holiday adventure into yesteryear London, this annual tradition is perhaps the most quintessentially “old-fashioned” Christmas event celebrated in the United States. People belonging to all age groups are invited to this fair to discover more than 700 costumed players of Charles Dickens’ classics in an authentically recreated Victorian atmosphere filled with theaters, shops, pubs, and delicious English treats like hot roasted chestnuts served in a paper cone, Meyer’s rum cakes, or Mrs. Bumble’s Sugar Plums, and roast beef with Yorkshire pudding with a refreshing glass of champagne, hot buttered rum or cider.

If you’re planning to visit the Golden Gate city this Christmas, don’t miss out on attending this event which will take you back to the Victorian era. Also, if you are curious about the West Coast Yuletide atmosphere, the most popular cities that adorn this coast – Los Angeles and San Francisco have some memorable Christmastime events lined up for this winter holidays.
