Fun Things To Do In Whistler, Canada

Top things to do in Whistler
Whistler Mountain

When I think of Whistler, I automatically think of the beautiful Rocky Mountains and skiing, but there are so many different, fun activities that you can do!

Whistler Skiing Pic
Of course the skiing is amazing and I would definitely recommend either cross- country of downhill skiing in the winter. While you are skiing, you can enjoy the spectacular surroundings and marvel at the breathtaking views! But skiing is not the only activity in Whistler, not by a long shot!

Lets start by taking a tour of the local Brewery which is a lot of fun! I would recommend sampling the local beer while you are at it! While you are enjoying your pint of beer, listen to the sounds of live music of local bands who play in the pubs and bars. If you are single, this is a great place to meet other single travellers and if you are attached it’ll be a pleasurable night for the both of you as well!

Whistler would not be complete without visiting it’s farmer’s market which offers fresh fruit, handmade arts and crafts, delicious baked goods and more!  Plus, don’t forget to hop on the local transit called “ The Wave”( tickets are cheap at $1.50 CAD) and take it to Rainbow Park. In the summer, you can play Frisbee, have a picnic, relax by breathing in the fresh air, or even go for a swim. In the winter, it is equally as beautiful as the views of the mountains from here are really fabulous!

For the more adventurous types, I would recommend spending some time at Lost Lake, which is ironically very easy to find! You simply take the trail from the village and follow the signs to this natural paradise located deep in the forest. The views are out of this world!

When you are walking around the village sampling the local beer, hot chocolate or exotic coffees from around the world at the more than dozen coffee shops, don’t forget to pick up a local souvenir such as a dream catcher (they come in all shapes and sizes and are said to ward off nightmare if kept by the side of your bed, they sure work for me!) Or if you would like to buy jewelery, Whistler is a great place to find special hand-carved jewelery and other Native Canadian handicrafts.

After a long day skiing, hiking or taking in the sights you can relax those tired legs at the Village 8 Cinemas and take in a good movie in Whistler’s state-of-the-art movie theatre.

You might even want to try the wonders of yoga as there are various yoga studios and drop-ins are more than welcome! Yoga is fabulous for the mind, soul and don’t forget the figure!

With Vancouver hosting the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Whistler has caught the Olympic Fever already (check out the 2010 Whistler Information Centre where you can take your picture on the podium and see what it feels like to be a medal winner!) This sure is fun for all ages!

Of course the trip would not be complete without experiencing the “ Interactive Forest” which is just south of Whistler. This route takes you on a self-guided journey throughoutt a mature growth forest and provides you with interesting facts along the way. It’s also a great family activity!
